Two women share a quiet domestic moment: one kneels at a low board, slicing small white rice cakes into neat squares with a knife, a tray of cut pieces and a dark lacquered dish of cubes beside her; the other sits behind, holding a decorated folding fan before her face. Nearby stand stacked boxes with pine sprigs, a tall lantern, and a folding screen edge. Columns of calligraphy float across the upper sheet, with a red seal cartouche and small shell-shaped emblem at right. Hokusai renders the kimono patterns — lattice, floral sprigs — with surimono refinement, and the scene glows in soft pink, grey, and green washes. A surimono for the Genroku-period poem-shell matching game series, printed with metallic pigments. The original work is a color woodblock print with metallic pigments (surimono shikishiban) by Katsushika Hokusai, dated 1821. This product is a hand-painted oil-on-canvas reproduction inspired by the original work.
