Four poppy blooms and buds arc across this horizontal sheet in a graceful, looping garland. The open flowers show ruffled coral-pink petals, veined with fine darker lines and shading to cream at the edges, each centered on a deep blue-grey seed pod ringed with golden stamens. Dark, jagged leaves — almost black-green — jut between the blooms, their saw-toothed edges giving the arrangement a wild energy against the pale blue-grey ground. One bud hangs half-open at right, its petals still cupped, while another nods downward at left. Hokusai's brush signature stands at the right edge. From an untitled series of flowers, the print treats the poppy as both delicate and unruly. The original work is a color woodblock print (oban) by Katsushika Hokusai, dated c. 1832. This product is a hand-painted oil-on-canvas reproduction inspired by the original work.
