A long boat drifts across the center of this horizontal surimono, carrying three women in patterned kimono of rust, ochre, and black-and-white checks. One woman leans far over the gunwale, gathering dark seaweed from the water into a woven basket, while the boatman in a red robe poles from the stern. A gnarled, nearly bare tree rises at the right, its branches reaching across the empty sky, and a small green island with pines floats in the middle distance. Hokusai keeps the palette soft — pale water, cream sky, muted robes — so the women's vivid garments glow against the calm. The composition balances the boat's diagonal against the tree's vertical thrust, creating a gentle, drifting rhythm. The original work is a color woodblock print (surimono) by Katsushika Hokusai. This product is a hand-painted oil-on-canvas reproduction inspired by the original work.
