A slender bridge spans a mist-filled gorge, joining a small roofed pavilion perched atop an isolated rock pinnacle to a temple complex clinging to the opposite cliff. Stairways zigzag down the crags, and pines grip the rock faces in dark green clusters. Below, clouds and waterfall mist merge in soft white and blue, while distant peaks fade into the haze at the left. Hokusai paints the scene in warm ochres and rust reds for the sunlit cliffs against cool blue-greens for the pines and mist, giving the architecture a floating, dreamlike quality. The red title cartouche at the upper left balances the composition. It is an image of daring construction in a sublime mountain void. The original work is a color woodblock print by Katsushika Hokusai, dated ca. 1830. This product is a hand-painted oil-on-canvas reproduction inspired by the original work.
