Visually, the work rewards attention to relationships rather than isolated objects. The landscape is organized through bands, paths, masses, and intervals, allowing foreground and distance to remain legible while surface marks keep the scene visually active. Edges can appear firm in one passage and less fixed in another, allowing color and touch to carry depth as well as description.
That balance between a recognizable place or subject and the experience of seeing it is central to Monet's importance within Impressionism. Look closely at how adjacent colors affect one another, how the eye travels across the surface, and how atmosphere links the foreground to more distant forms.
