This is my second painting, and I'm just as happy with this one as the first. I love how the brushwork gives each piece its own character. I'll probably be back for another.

It took longer than ordering something ready-made, but I knew this was being painted by hand. The finished piece was worth the wait. I just wish there had been a few more updates during the process.

THE STORY BEHIND THE ARTWORK

A Closer Look

At Yoshino, famous for its cherry blossoms, Hokusai paints the flowers as drifting clouds of pale pink that swallow the hillside — temple roofs and a vermilion torii gate emerge from the blossom mist like islands. Below, travelers and a laden horse pick their way along the path while porters rest at the roadside, small against the floral expanse. The blossoms become weather, atmosphere, almost the sky itself. Pink, fresh green, and the deep blue band of sky above make this one of the most spring-drunk sheets in the Snow, Moon, and Flowers series. The original work is a woodblock print in ink and color on paper, dated ca. 1833. This product is a hand-painted oil-on-canvas reproduction inspired by the original work.
