Two gods of luck share a New Year feast in this loose ink drawing: one holds a small cup while the other offers food with chopsticks, both grinning broadly. Before them sit a platter of fish, a woven basket, and several tall sake bottles drawn with elegant simplicity. Hokusai's brushwork is rapid and playful — the figures' robes built from a few sweeping strokes, their faces from a handful of dots and curves. The empty background concentrates all attention on the convivial pair and their modest spread. It is a drawing of pure good humor, the divine rendered as warmly human. The inscription at the lower right and the casual, sketch-like finish give the sheet the feel of a celebratory doodle. The original work is an ink drawing on paper by Katsushika Hokusai. This product is a hand-painted oil-on-canvas reproduction inspired by the original work.
