From the series that illustrates classical poems for ordinary readers, this sheet shows a lively scene in a fenced training yard by the sea. Men in white practice garments and headbands face off with wooden swords while others watch or rest on the grass, their poses full of energy. A wooden building with a thatched roof stands at the left, shaded by a cherry tree in bloom. Beyond the yard, the blue sea stretches to the horizon under a soft sky. The poem's text appears in the cartouche at the upper right. Foreground action and distant water share the sheet in Hokusai's typical layered depth, the fighters' movement echoing the restless sea behind them. The original work is a woodblock print in ink and color on paper by Katsushika Hokusai, dated 1839. This product is a hand-painted oil-on-canvas reproduction inspired by the original work.
